Maharashtra notifies Wage Rules, 2026 under the Code on Wages

What changed

Maharashtra has made the Maharashtra Wage Rules, 2026 under the Code on Wages, 2019. They replace the Maharashtra Minimum Wages Rules, 1963 and the Maharashtra Payment of Wages Rules, 1963, and apply across the state.

Who it applies to

• Every employer of an establishment in Maharashtra that the Code on Wages applies to, and their employees.

What to do

• Keep the new registers in prescribed forms.
• Calculate minimum wages on the daily basis given in the rules.
• Follow the rest-day rules and pay the overtime rate for work on rest days.
• Collect nominations from employees.
• File the annual return electronically.
