Uttar Pradesh Code on Wages Rules, 2026 now in force

What changed

The Government of Uttar Pradesh notified the Uttar Pradesh Code on Wages Rules, 2026 (No. 1377/XXXVI-03-2026-1901341, dated 12 August 2026) under the Code on Wages, 2019. They apply from 12 August 2026, the date they were published in the Uttar Pradesh Gazette, and replace:

  • the Uttar Pradesh Payment of Wages Rules, 1936;
  • the Uttar Pradesh Minimum Wages Rules, 1952; and
  • the Uttar Pradesh Code on Wages Rules, 2021.

Points that change day-to-day work:

  • Wage slips: every employer must give wage slips in Form IX, on paper or electronically, on or before the day wages are paid.
  • Registers: registers may be kept on paper or digitally, and must be kept for five years after the last entry. Deductions are recorded in Form I.
  • Dearness allowance on minimum wages: the variable dearness allowance is worked out twice a year, before 1 April and before 1 October, from the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers.

Who it applies to

Every employer with employees in Uttar Pradesh.

What to do

  • Switch your wage slips to Form IX, and issue them on or before payday.
  • Move your registers to the formats in the new rules, and keep them for five years.
  • Watch for the revised minimum-wage dearness allowance from 1 October 2026.

Example

A Noida software company with 120 staff pays salaries on the 1st of the month. For salaries paid on 1 September 2026, every employee must get a Form IX wage slip on or before that day.
